Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna awarded Katie Pemberton the Idaho Teacher of Year 2013.

Pemberton began her teaching career at Canfield Middle School in 2005. From the beginning of her career, Mrs. Pemberton has been an exemplary teacher and a model for technology integration not only at Canfield, but throughout the Coeur d’Alene School District.

Mrs. Pemberton’s demonstrated excellence in the classroom has been recognized by our district on a number of occasions. She was Canfield’s Rookie of the Year nominee for her first three years of instruction and was awarded the honor of District Rookie of the Year in 2008. The following year, she was the Middle School Teacher of the Year, and this year was recognized as both the Middle School Teacher of the Year and the District Teacher of the Year.
In May 2012, Pemberton was awarded the Nation’s highest honor when she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. Only 50 teachers receive this award nationwide and Pemberton was recognized for her outstanding instruction, serving as a model for her colleagues, and leading improvement in mathematics education.

As Idaho Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Pemberton will receive $1,000 from the Idaho State Department of Education, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., and represent Idaho as a nominee for the National Teacher of the Year.
